Press Release Body = (Providence, Rhode Island, USA) Despite pouring rain, the elderly came with wheelchairs, walkers and canes to for the final public showing of Italian Americans and Federal Hill at the Columbus Theater on Federal Hill, Sunday afternoon.
Cast members Joseph DeGiulio and published historian Joseph R. Muratore hosted the matinee performance to a standing room only crowd, and introduced director/producer Jon Raben.
Among the guests attending Sunday\'s matinee were cast member and Providence Journal Investigative Reporter William Z. Malinowski and main story character Marie Costantino.
"The heavens weep today" 90 year old elderly cast member Maria Costentino remarked to no one in particular, "because it\'s the final showing." Costentino had captured the fancy of many with her witty remarks in the movie which captured the fancy of many, especially one that was repeatedly heard from women leaving the show. Her husband Dante had just finished explaining how he went to work with his Dad in the old Italian custom, when Maria quipped, \'that\'s why he doesn\'t even know what Saran Wrap is.\'
The movie kicked off Rhode Island Italian Heritage Month which continues with a University of Rhode Island exhibit at their gallery on Washington Street in Providence that illustrates the heritage and traditions of Italian family life. The display is free and open to the public throughout October. Details are available at www.uri.edu/prov
Because the movie was a sellout at each of the three showings, producer/director Jon Raben decided to release the DVD\'s early and many loyal Federal Hill residents who could not get a ticket came to the lobby intent on getting the DVD and poster for their own personal collections.
There are no plans for further public showings of this movie.
